Joy as Resistance - an art exhibit

Are you feeling the gloom and doom? Are you feeling the gloom and doom? I am resisting. One way I resist the fear-mongering and the very real travesties of our time is by refusing to surrender my joy. And I’m not alone. Other Charlotte artists are pushing back with paint, color, beauty and a little defiance.

September 23 - November 18, an art exhibit titled - “Joy as Resistance” will be on view at Arts Factory in Charlotte, NC. Curated by artist Ashaki Ali and produced by QC Family Tree, the exhibit brings together Charlotte artists exploring resistance through creativity, beauty, positivity—and a little defiance.

I am thrilled to have three of my watercolors included in the exhibit. Painting has always been one of the ways I find my way back to joy, especially when the world feels particularly heavy. There is something wonderfully defiant about making something beautiful when ugliness seems determined to get all the attention.

“Joy as Resistance” is on view at Arts Factory, 1545 W. Trade Street, Charlotte, North Carolina. Hours for viewing: M-F 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.
