‘Tis the season - everything all at once!
Christmas music started playing in the grocery store aisles before Spooky Season began. When October was finally upon us, Lowe’s and Home Depot displayed both Halloween and Christmas decorations at the same time. What can I expect? ’Tis the season to be confused about which holiday is actually upon us - it’s the everything, all at once season!
Today — October 31st — we’ve hit the crescendo of Spooky Season - All Hallows Eve, Halloween, Day of the Dead, and All Saints Day are here and near. I have enjoyed every bit of it, loading up on lots of scary movies. The most frightening thing is never knowing how many kids will show up at my door. Did I buy too much candy or too little? I woke up this morning thinking too little!
The next holiday, sandwiched between Spooky Season, Hanukkah, the Winter Solstice, Christmas, and Kwanzaa, is Thanksgiving. This year, I’ll be thankful for my family, our good health, and finally making the move to North Carolina after dreaming of it for over 30 years. Oh, and what a blessing—the fantastic way my self-published art book, Sisters During Rocky Times, has been received by family and friends! Jah is AMAZING!
And on that same day—turkey day—as some of us are still in awe of Spirit, others will sprint towards Black Friday deals (in person and on online). Even USPS, FedEx, UPS, and Amazon Prime employees will be preparing their best marathon moves to get ready for the holiday season juggernaut—Christmas. On Black Friday itself, I hope to #optoutside for a long hike, then come home to wrap up copies of “Sisters During Rocky Times” to send off in the mail.*
The holidays tend to fly by in one chaotic swish, so my wish for you is to find slow moments so you can truly appreciate the sweets, the turkey, the trimmings, the giving and the gifts — packaged or unpackaged.
